Long term employee promoted to Springdale town administrator
Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – The town government of Springdale voted in early November to make longtime employee Ashley Watkins their permanent town administrator. She had been acting in an interim capacity in that position for several months.
Ashley has worked for the town since she was 19 years old. She began her career there as an administrative assistant working at the reception desk answering the phone, greeting people, and issuing building permits and business licenses..
She comes by her public service honestly. Her mother, Sherry Brooks, was the town administrator for the Town of Pine Ridge for many years and now works for Lexington County in solid waste management.
Ashley is married to Major Stephen Watkins of the Gaston Police Department. Together, the pair have a family of four children. They live in the White Knoll area of the county..
She grew up in Pine Ridge, went to Lexington Two schools and graduated from Airport High School in 1998. She says she loves Lexington County and has never dreamed of living anywhere else.
Ashley said that she is humbled to have been entrusted with the job of running the day-to-day operations of the town. “I am honored that they have given me the responsibility, and that the mayor and council have faith that I will do what’s right for the town based on their vision,” she said. She said she loves Springdale and calls it her second home. “This is my home away from home. We are a team at the town hall, and we all work hard together to make Springdale the great place that it is,” she concluded.
Springdale Mayor Michael Bishop said that Ashley is the perfect fit for the job. “Ashley has been working for us for years, and this was a no brainer! She was already doing an outstanding job for us and it only made sense to make it official at our November meeting. We have every confidence that she will continue to do a great job in helping us make Springdale a wonderful place to live, work, and play.”
Since Ashley had already been doing the job of administrator, the interim title was removed immediately after the council’s voted on November 7th, 2017.
