Search party successful, but outcome tragic

Swansea, SC (Paul Kirby) The search party that was organized Tuesday in hopes of locating Monday Wingard was successful; the outcome, however was tragic. During the search, the body of Wingard was found in a wooded area of Basil Road near Swansea. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has positively identified the body that was found deceased as Mr. Monday H. Wingard. He was last seen since October 31, 2017.

A community search party was formed by family and friends after Wingard wasn’t located quickly by sheriff’s deputies. That party assembled in the 800 block of Basil Road in the cool morning Tuesday, and a member of that team came across Wingard’s body somewhere close by.

The coroner’s office has scheduled an autopsy to determine exactly how Wingard died. He was known to be in poor health at the time that he went missing. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating.
