Lexington Three educators receive Google certifications

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Four Lexington School District Three educators were honored at the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, November 14th for receiving Google certifications.

Samantha Trotter (a Literacy Coach at B-L Elementary School), Ashley Fort (a Lexington Three Digital Learning Coach), and Paul Spence (a Spanish Teacher at B-L High School) have received their Google Educator 1 and 2 Certifications. These exams are completed by teachers who show proficiency in the use of G Suite for Education tools in the classroom. The focus of the Google Educator exams reaches far beyond navigation of the G Suite to include the use of these tools to benefit instruction in the classroom. Exams can be taken following the completion of online courses provided by Google and other providers, following certification academy trainings (which Lexington Three offered this past summer), or when an educator feels prepared to take the exams after practical use in the classroom. Completion of the exams also provides access to Google forums to collaborate with other Google Certified Educators.

Andrea Derrick, another Lexington Three Digital Learning Coach, was also recognized for receiving the Google Trainer Certification, which includes the completion of Google Educator Levels 1 & 2, a Trainer Skills Assessment, a training video and an application cataloguing trainings and sessions offered in the professional development process. Google Trainer Certification provides access to Google training materials, digital collaborative spaces with Google Trainers around the world and visibility in the Google Directory.

Last year, following Lexington Three’s first year of 1:1 technology implementation, the district was invited to become a Google Reference District. As the district advances its 1:1 technology initiative through G Suite for Education, we are proud to recognize teachers who have taken the initiative to further their learning as Google Educators and Trainers who can lead professional development opportunities and model best practices in technology integration in the classroom. The presence of Google Certified Educators and Trainers within Lexington School District Three is evidence of the district’s commitment to better student learning in our schools.
