Gilbert death was car versus pedestrian collision
Gilbert, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now confirmed that the woman that died in the 1400 block of Broad Street in Gilbert this morning was struck by a car. Fisher said that the driver of the car did stop as soon as the accident occurred and has been cooperative in the investigation.
Fisher said that by all appearances, the woman who died was simply walking along the roadside about 6:30 a.m. when she was struck and killed by a vehicle.Sunrise today was officially at 7:05 a.m. so it was still dark when the collision occurred.
Fisher said at this time, they are having difficulty positively identifying the woman. “She appears to be a Caucasian woman,” Fisher said by telephone mid-day Friday. “Our office is working hard to identify her and notify her family, but right now we don’t have much to go on.” She went on to say that it’s particularly stressful when someone loses a loved one during the holiday season.
The SC Highway Patrol has been on the scene most of the day investigating the deadly crash. Fisher’s office has been assisting and they have scheduled an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. If you have any idea who the woman might be, you can call the coroner's dispatch at (803) 785-2521.
