On November 30, 2017 at approximately 9:47 PM, officers from the Cayce Department of Public Safety responded to a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred in the 1300 block of Knox Abbott Drive. Witness statements and evidence show that the suspect vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed in excess of the posted 35 mph limit.
The suspect, Bradford Tyrone Makins, vehicle crossed the center line causing a head-on collision with the victim vehicle. Two adults and three children from the victim’s vehicle were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The suspect that caused the collision was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Bradford Tyrone Makins, age 26, was arrested for two counts of Felony Driving Under the Influence involving great bodily injury. Makins has prior alcohol violations. Once Mr. Makins is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Lexington County Detention Center for a formal bond hearing.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol MAIT Team will be assisting with the investigation.
