B-L Middle students participate in "Hoops for Heart"

Batesburg-Leesville, SC - Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at B-L Middle School participated in “Hoops for Heart” on Tuesday, November 21st as part of an American Heart Association service learning project.

Students could pay either $5 to play in a 3 vs 3 basketball tournament or $3 to watch and cheer on their fellow classmates. The goal of the event was to teach students about the importance of healthy heart habits while letting them have fun and be active. According to the American Heart Association, 36,000 children are born with a heart defect each year. That’s about 1 in every 100 children.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Heart Association to raise funds for lifesaving heart and brain research.
