Fifth-grader turns LEGOs into blue ribbon

Lexington, SC - A Lake Murray Elementary student won a blue ribbon at this year’s state fair for a creation using one of his favorite toys.

Fifth-Grader Laken C. Busher impressed the judges at the South Carolina State Fair with an entry built out of LEGO bricks. Knowing his creative side, Busher’s grandmother Carol, a baker, encourages him to express himself through baking and Lego building.

Busher has been entering his LEGO creations in the state fair since he was in first grade. This year, he won first place in the Handicrafts category for building a model of a farm, complete with a LEGO tractor, and was awarded a check in the amount of $10.

Before building the model, Busher used his computer skills to submit an online application requesting that the state fair committee approve his proposed project for entry.
