Town of Irmo continues holiday season with annual Christmas Tree Lighting In town park
Irmo Fire, Police Departments on hand, Irmo Elementary School choir performs
Irmo, SC (James Bowers) - Irmo’s celebration of the holiday season continued Tuesday evening with its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Irmo Town Park. A large crowd joined town officials such as Mayor Hardy King and the other members of the Irmo Town Council for the festive occasion. Officers from the Irmo Police Department and members of the Irmo Fire District were also present for the event.
Attendees were treated to a performance by the Irmo Elementary School Choir, who performed several seasonal selections. Mayor King then had the young musicians handle the countdown to the lighting; the number “17” was chosen to commemorate the year. The tree, located roughly in the center of the park, was then illuminated while the assembled crowd offered a standing ovation. It was another fun moment for the Irmo community. “It’s a good time for the community to get together,” King said. “It’s great to start the end of the year with a little cheer.”
Mayor King says that among the town’s plans for 2018 is a Cherry Blossom Festival, which will be held sometime in March. The Irmo Town Park and the new community park are both scenic facilities of ample size for enjoyable community gatherings, and could host many more events that may be planned in the future.
