Irmo FD, Lexington County, and Columbia firefighters fight house fire on Cairnbrook Ct near Bush Riv
Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from the Irmo Fire District, backed up by crews from Lexington County and the City of Columbia FD, extinguished a single-family house fire on Cairnbrook Court off Cairnbrook Drive Saturday. According to Irmo Battalion Chief Brent Dominick of the Irmo Fire District, the home was located at 3718 Cairnbrook Court.
Firefighters from all three departments were dispatched through automatic aid agreements. Irmo crews were first on scene and reported that they had smoke coming from several sides of the one-story home. A supply line was dropped from a fire hydrant by one of the trucks to provide a flow to the firefighters that were attacking the fire.
Eventually, firefighters entered the home with attack lines to knock the fire down. Other crews ventilated the home to let the heat and smoke escape. They were eventually able to find the source of the fire and put it out.
As the firefighters were putting the fire out, a civilian on the scene had a medical emergency that was reported to be some type of seizure. Firefighters and EMS personnel on the scene provided medical care for that person. An EMS crew was also on the scene monitoring the firefighters' health and safety and helping with rehabilitation.
Eventually, the fire was put out, but the home was heavily damaged to the point that its residents were displaced. The American Red Cross was notified and is providing them with assistance.
