Single vehicle crash sends patient to trauma center early Wednesday

Edmund, SC (Paul Kirby) – A single car that appeared to be heading west toward Pelion, left the road and struck a tree right at the intersection of Edmund Hwy. and Gator Road early Wednesday. EMS, the fire service, county deputies, and the SC Highway Patrol responded to the wreck sometime around 3:30 a.m.

EMS personnel arrived quickly as did the deputies and firefighters from both east toward South Congaree and west toward Edmund. They found that a dark sedan had gone off the road on the side closest to Gator Road, run down an embankment, and struck a tree.

After their initial assessment, the EMS crew decided that the patient was severely injured enough that he or she should be transported to the trauma center at Palmetto Richland instead of the closest medical facility. They also requested that a firefighter drive the ambulance in so that both EMS crew members could focus on patient care.

The SCHP is investigating the accident. They have not released any details at this time regarding the cause of that wreck.
