Spring Hill High earns opportunity to offer AP Capstone Diploma™ program in 2018-2019
Irmo, SC – Spring Hill High School will continue to offer students higher education opportunities in the years ahead. The school will implement the AP Capstone Diploma™ program for the 2018-2019 school year.
“This is such a great opportunity for our students here at Spring Hill High to experience within our rigorous academic program,” said Spring Hill High principal Dr. Michael Lofton. “Our students enjoy the challenges they face each day in the classroom, and this will only add to that. I know they are prepared and will shine!”
AP Capstone™ is a College Board program that equips students with the independent research, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills that are increasingly valued by colleges. It cultivates curious, independent and collaborative scholars and prepares them to make logical, evidence-based decisions.
The program is comprised of two AP courses – AP Seminar and AP Research – and is designed to complement and enhance the discipline-specific study in other AP courses. Participating schools can use the AP Capstone program to provide unique research opportunities for current AP students, or to expand access to AP by encouraging students to master the argument-based writing skills that the AP Capstone program develops.
“We are thrilled that our schools continue to strive for excellence here in District Five,” said Reggie Dean, the district’s director of secondary education. “The AP Capstone program is very highly regarded and we know that this is a tremendous opportunity for Dr. Lofton and Spring Hill High School. What an exciting time it is for our district!”
