Gaston PD seeking help finding suspects who held up Dollar General store
Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Gaston police investigators are looking for a couple who robbed the Dollar General store on Main Street last Tuesday night. According to Major Stephen Watkins of the Gaston Police Department, the robbery happened at approximately 9:33 p.m. on December 26th. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department initially responded because Gaston had no officers on duty at the time of the armed robbery. Gaston PD, like many small towns in Lexington County, is not large enough to have a 24/7 patrol at this time. The sheriff’s department has forwarded the case to Gaston and is assisting as needed with the investigation.
Major Watkins said that shortly before the store was to close, a black man and woman entered the store wearing masks. They both presented knives to the store’s clerk. The female jumped across the counter and threatened the clerk, forcing her to open the cash drawer. The male suspect stood watch on the other side of the counter with a knife in his hand while this was all going down. The female cleaned out the cash drawer, taking between $300 and $600 from the register before the two left.
The pair fled the store in an older, possibly late 1980’s, gold and silver Honda 4-door car. Their direction of travel was not known. A better description of the suspects is not available because the management team of the Dollar General has not yet provided law enforcement with a download of surveillance footage from the store’s cameras. That footage is expected in the next few days. Investigators have said that if there are usable pictures of the suspects on that footage, they will release that to The Ledger.
