Car crash traps occupants in twisted wreckage on 12th Street Extension at Amazon
Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) Crews from Lexington County EMS, the fire service, and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department responded to a car accident at the entrance to the Amazon Fulfillment Center on 12th Street Extension near Cayce. The call regarding the wreck came in at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. Firefighters from both Gaston and South Congaree responded as did several EMS units and their supervisors.
The first arriving responders found what they described as a “heavy entrapment” of several of the patients. This normally indicates that the rescuers will need to spend some time using hydraulic or other specialty rescue tools to free the trapped people. According to our correspondent on the scene, the firefighters had to remove the roof of at least one of the cars in order to extricate the patient. At least one was transported to the local trauma center for treatment of injuries sustained in the incident.
Eyewitnesses said that it appeared as if someone pulled out of a parking lot into the path of the other vehicle. The cause of the accident will probably be investigated by the SCHP because the accident happened in the county outside the Cayce city limits.
