Deputy fires weapon at suspect in Irmo house after home invasion

Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Sheriff’s Department investigators are on the scene of a home invasion that occurred at about 6:20 a.m. on Mapleview Drive in the Irmo area of Lexington County. This is close to Irmo Middle School in the unincorporated area outside the town of Irmo.

According to a spokesman for the department, during a security sweep of the home, deputies heard a commotion upstairs. At some point, they were confronted by an armed suspect who presented a rifle. A deputy fired multiple shots during that encounter. No one was struck during that exchange and no injuries have been reported.

According to the spokesman, "Currently, two suspects are in custody in connection with the home invasion. Our work on that case continues."

Per standard procedure, SLED is on scene conducting its own investigation into the shots fired by the deputy. It could be some time before more information is available from SLED’s team.
