Lexington PD says "Sober or Slammer" campaign to continue through New Years

Lexington, SC (December 29, 2017) - Chief Terrence Green would like to remind the Town of Lexington community that the Lexington Police Department, along with officers statewide, will continue their participation in the "Sober of Slammer" campaign with enforcement activities centered around driving under the influence activities through the New Year's holiday. Traffic Division and Patrol Division officers will be participating in traffic saturation and public safety checkpoints and those who plan to drink alcohol are asked to have a plan to get home safe after holiday parties or other festivities. Since the "Sober or Slammer" campaign began in mid-December, the Lexington Police Department has made numerous D.U.I. arrests and officers continue to be focused on getting impaired drivers off the street. Chief Terrence Green said, "Over the last two weeks officers have made D.U.I. arrests during traffic stops and collision investigations. It is beyond comprehension why those who drink alcohol continue to put themselves behind the wheel as the risk of arrest, injury or causing a death is just too great. Please make sure that you have a way to get home safe with a sober driver this New Year's holiday weekend."
