Lexington County firefighters respond to house fire in Chapin area Sunday morning

Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from Lexington County’s Chapin area fire stations, assisted by crews from Lexington EMS, the Irmo Fire District and Newberry County, responded to a house fire in the 800 block of Silverpoint Drive off Greenmeadow Drive and Amicks Ferry Road early Sunday morning. The call was reported at approximately 4:00 a.m. The crews braved the cold to fight the fire in some of the coldest temperatures we’ve had reported this year.

Lexington County’s Engine 22 out of Amicks Ferry was the first to arrive on scene. They found visible smoke and fire coming from the home’s detached garage, with possible extension into the nearby home. Shortly after LCFS personnel and equipment arrived, Irmo Fire District pulled up on the scene to assist. Additionally, personnel and equipment were requested for mutual aid from Richland County and the Little Mountain FD out of Newberry County. It took several hours for the teams to bring the fire under control. It was reported to be out at approximately 6 a.m.

According to Harrison Cahill, spokesman for the county, the fire caused an estimated $130,000 in damages to the home. Cahill said there were no injuries reported from the fire.
