Calks Ferry Road accident now being reported as fatal

Boiling Springs, SC (Paul Kirby) Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has now confirmed that one of the victims of this morning's single-vehicle accident has died. The accident occurred in the 2800 block of Calks Ferry Road between Old Charleston and Windy Wood Roads near Pelion at approximately 2:15 AM Friday. The road was closed completely for several hours while the accident was being investigated.

According to Coroner Fisher, Ms. Crystal Marie Padgett, 34, of Gaston was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries she sustained in the accident. Ms. Padgett’s vehicle, which was travelling toward Lexington, ran off the left side of roadway and struck a tree. Padgett was not wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred. A passenger in the vehicle, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the trauma center at Palmetto Richland with what is being described as life threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
