Chapin firefighters respond to abandoned outbuilding fire in heart of town
Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) A small abandoned outbuilding at the corner of Clark and Water Streets in the heart of Chapin burned Friday afternoon. The building was completely destroyed by the blaze that was reported around 1:00 p.m..
According to Chapin Police Chief Seth Zeigler, the building was very small and had not been used for some time. He had officers on the scene just to help keep onlookers back while the firefighters did their jobs. No one was injured by the fire and it was brought under control quickly.
The crew from the Amicks Ferry station was assisting Newberry County firefighters with a working fire. That commitment left the area with no coverage as the crews from Chapin and Crossroads were also committed. The battalion chief that covers the area ordered another engine company from the heart of the county to move into the Chapin area to provide fire protection while Chapin’s crew were tied up.
