Sheriff’s investigators working on St. Andrews area bank robbery
St. Andrews, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Sheriff’s Department investigators are trying to find a suspect who robbed a bank in the St. Andrews area of Lexington County. The robbery took place Thursday morning at a Wells Fargo branch that’s located near St. Andrews and Bush River Roads just outside the town of Irmo.
For some time after the incident, an active search was underway in the area for a black male who was last seen running from the bank. Captain Adam Myrick, a spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said that the man entered the bank, hopped over the counter, and then grabbed cash from one of the drawers. That’s when he fled the scene on foot.
Employees told investigators that he was wearing corduroy pants, a camouflage jacket, and had a backpack on. Eventually, the search was called off after it proved fruitless.
Later Thursday, the department released several photographs of the suspect. Those pictures, taken from the surveillance system, shows the suspect may also have had a fleece collar on his coat, and a distinctive ballcap.
