Chapin’s Zoning Administrator Chris Clauson resigns
Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) Chapin’s Zoning Administrator Chris Clauson has turned in a letter of resignation to take a job with Fairfield County. He will be that area's Community Planning and Development Director. Clauson had been with the small, northwestern Lexington County town for several years. Word of his resignation came out of the town hall late Friday.
As the town’s zoning administrator, Clauson was responsible for ensuring a professional and timely review of proposed construction and development plans for the town. In addition, he oversaw compliance with the town's zoning ordinances, promoted public health, safety, morals, convenience, order, appearance, prosperity, and the general welfare of the community, according to the town’s website.
Clauson stayed busy because Chapin is growing by leaps and bounds and the business community is a huge part of that growth. He was the town employee that kept up with all new development within the town’s borders to ensure that it met the standards set forth by the town. Prior to building or doing extensive remodeling, or even installing a sign, Clauson would review it against standards that have been in place for years.
He is the second member of the town’s well-trained staff to resign since the November election that saw a new mayor elected. Karen Owens', the town's former director of communications and economic development, last day was at the end of December. She took a similar job overseeing the communications team for the SC State Treasurer.
We will update this story as we learn more after we speaking with Clausn personally.
