Pursuit leads to shooting in Sharpes Hill area of the county
Sharpe’s Hill, SC (Paul Kirby 05:05 a.m.) At least one person was shot late Thursday after a suspect or suspects were involved in a pursuit with law enforcement officers. At one point, multiple agencies were involved according to our source. The exchange of gunfire occurred on Mimosa Drive in the Sharpes Hill area of the county.
Details are extremely limited at this time; however, we have been told that a pursuit began in the South Congaree area of the county and the fleeing vehicle finally came to a stop near Mimosa Drive and Fish Hatchery Road. This road runs between SC Hwy. 6 at The Store, and Fish Hatchery Road on the other end. It is both dirt or paved, depending on what part you are on.
At some point after the pursuit terminated, shots rang out and at least one person was struck. EMS and fire units responded, and the injured person was alive at the time of their arrival on the scene. They rendered care to the injured.
At this time, we don’t know why the pursuit ensued, who was shot, or what agency or agencies the officers that discharged their weapons worked for. We aren’t sure whether one or more officers shot at the suspect or what the accused did to draw the fire. We also have no information on the condition of the person who was shot.
We do know that the fire service loaned lighting to the agency that was taking the lead on the shooting. They did not return to the scene to retrieve that lighting until approximately 5 a.m. when that portion of the investigation was drawing to a close. If an officer fired their weapon, SLED would normally be the lead agency on that.
We will continue to update this story as we receive more information.
