Body found in Lexington was homeless vet who died within a mile of veteran's shelter
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher released a statement Wednesday regarding the individual who was found dead on Tuesday, January 23, in a wooded area off of Chariot Street in Lexington. Fisher said that the deceased was Mr. Dennis E. Reidy, 69, of Lexington. According to Coroner Fisher, Mr. Reidy’s body was discovered by a local resident at approximately 11:00 a.m.
An autopsy, performed on January 24, 2018, concluded that Mr. Reidy’s death was the result of natural circumstances. Mr. Reidy, who was a homeless U.S. Veteran, appeared to have been staying in a makeshift shelter in the wooded area where he was discovered. The saddest part of this story is that there is a homeless shelter for veterans that is free and within a mile of the spot where the man’s body was located. That shelter provides recovery resources of all types while giving the veterans a safe, comfortable place to eat, sleep, and learn.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department was also involved in the investigation.
