Saint Andrews Road closed because of gas-main break

Irmo, SC, 3:48 p.m. (Paul Kirby) St. Andrews Road has been closed near the NAPA, Hallmark Store, and Big Lots by the Irmo Fire District while SCE&G crews work to secure a gas leak caused by a contractor. The actual street address is 6281. Workers accidentally dug into the line at around 3:00 p.m. Monday causing the line to spew gas in the area.

Firefighters have advised employees of the businesses nearby to shelter in place. They also asked them not to smoke or use any open flames until the situation is brought under control.

Law enforcement officers are on the scene and detours have been set up. It is strongly advised to avoid the area and monitor the Irmo Fire District’s social media sites until the line has been capped and the all clear has been given.
