St. Andrews Road’s The Food Academy to hold Groundhog Day celebration and Jazz Night Friday
Event at greater Irmo area eatery will feature live jazz music, food and drink specials
St. Andrews, SC (James Bowers) - Those looking for a place to have a nice dinner on Friday evening may want to check out St. Andrews Road’s The Food Academy. It’s holding a Jazz Night as part of its Groundhog Day celebration. The restaurant is marking the holiday with a unique special; if the groundhog sees his shadow during the annual ceremony in Pennsylvania, TFA will serve two of its acclaimed specialty cocktails for the price of one. If he doesn’t see his shadow, guests can get two of the eatery’s delectable “Small Plate” items for the price of one. These include unique dishes such as Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls, a smoky blend of Caribbean and Asian cuisines, and Steak Baked Potato, which merges two popular American items into one entrée.
The Food Academy is one of the newest arrivals to the Irmo/Harbison area dinner party. It opened its location on St. Andrews Road eight months ago. The restaurant is the brainchild of Jessica and Isaiah Carswell, who together have over 20 years of food industry and culinary arts experience in a multitude of settings. It should be noted that The Food Academy derives its name from the fact that the organization also offers cooking classes, teaching people with all levels of experience how to make delicious, nutritious meals. Adult classes are held on the first Tuesday of every month, while classes for children are held on the first Wednesday of each month. The classes also teach skills such as meal planning and raised bed gardening, and are great as parties and events. The Food Academy also offers courses for ServSafe Food Handling and Management certification.
Culinary education is just one of a plethora of services TFA can provide. Full service catering, private chefs, meal preparation and delivery, and bar services for events such as weddings are among their offerings. The company also offers event planning and décor services.
Prices at the restaurant are reasonable for food of this quality. The small plates on TFA’s lunch menu go for $8.These plates will also be served during Friday’s event.
The Jazz Night is one of several events TFA holds in the community each month. Others include the Sunday Brunch Buffet, which is held every Sunday from 11 am-4 pm, and offers a choice of several unique creations for $20 ($12 for kids 3-12 years, free for kids under three), and events such as wine and design nights, where attendees can make their own artworks while sampling fine wines. Tastings of both wine and moonshine are also held at TFA.
The Groundhog Day Celebration will take place on February 2 at The Food Academy, 6230 St. Andrews Road, Columbia. The specials will be in effect from 11 am-10 pm, with the Jazz Night portion getting underway at 6 pm.
