South Congaree arrest man for criminal sexual conduct with a child under age 13
South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) A South Congaree man has been arrested today after sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13. South Congaree Police Chief Josh Shumpert said today that Wendell Thomas Sanders, age 54, of South Congaree, was taken into custody after a thorough investigation into the allegations.
Chief Shumpert said the child’s mother contacted police after she discovered that the abuse had been going on. Chief Shumpert said that the suspect was taken to the police department, and after his department conducted their investigation, they placed Sanders under arrest.
Sanders has now been transported to the Lexington County Detention Center in Lexington where he will be booked. Shumpert said that he will be charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree with a minor under the age of 13. Shumpert’s department is working closely with the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor’s Office to decide if the man will face any other charges.
