Baines stresses opposition to Chapin Housing Proposal
Chapin, SC - As a real-estate developer from Alabama moves forward with plans for a multi-family housing development in the heart of Chapin, Councilman Preston Baines has re-iterated the same opposition he held two years ago, when the "Peaks of Chapin" project failed to secure a housing grant, temporarily stopping the project. The housing would be located between the Bi-Lo and Food Lion, on the property adjacent to Aquarius Spa and Salon, a historic property in the middle of the business district.
"The heart of our town is not the place to locate apartments of any kind," Baines said. "I was one of the leaders in the charge against the project two years ago and we will pick up right where we left off, but now is the time for town council to work with the planning commission to swiftly come up with a long-term solution to avoid re-visiting the issue."
Baines continued, "We live in an amazing community and I am please with the passion of our citizens in voicing their concerns. It will definitely take a team effort to continue the fight for our community."
Preston Baines is a member of the Town of Chapin's town council. He was sworn in January or 2018. He has been active in politics for many years.
