Lexington School District Four says 18 students, bus driver, and car’s occupants injured in Tuesday
Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A spokesperson for Lexington County School District Four said Tuesday that 18 students from Sandhills Middle School and a district bus driver were transported to a local hospital with what is thought to be non-critical injuries after a wreck between the bus and a SUV. The occupants of the SUV were also injured and transported. The accident happened near Fallaw and Blackville Roads southwest of Gaston just after 7:30 a.m.
Lexington County’s EMS bus was utilized to transport the majority of the injured. The most seriously injured, thought to be the occupants of the SUV, were transported by ground ambulance before the bus arrived. The fire service and sheriff’s deputies assisted with the accident.
The SCHP is investigating but a spokesman for that department said that the driver of the car appeared to have disregarded the stop sign and pulled into the path of the bus. The entire county was blanketed by thick fog at the time but the SCHP hasn’t said if that was a contributing factor in the collision.
