More than 20 transported after school bus involved in accident near Blackville and Fallaw Road inter

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A loaded school bus was involved in an accident that was first reported at 429 Blackville Road just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. This is near the intersection of Blackville and Fallaw Roads. It was extremely foggy across the entire county at the time of the accident, and there were a number of other collisions that were being reported at approximately the same time.

Fire service and EMS units responded from various county stations. Once supervisors got on the scene and began to assess the children and others involved, they asked for the county’s EMS bus to respond. This specially built bus carries many people at once and was most recently used during the Amtrak train accident. The first arriving ambulance transported three patients quickly and another 20 are being loaded on the EMS bus to be transported for evaluation. It is not clear how many of the injured or students. There are also a number of law enforcement officers on the scene assisting.

District officials are working to assess the situation before they release any official statement regarding the crash. They have a contact system in place to notify parents of the children that were on the bus quickly. Once those parents are contacted and district employees have gathered the facts regarding the incident, they will notify the media with additional information. The actual accident will be investigated by the SCHP.
