Diimmler to appear in Lexington County court today

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) Dawn Diimmler, the disgraced former Airport High School assistant principal charged with sexual battery with a student, is set to appear in court this morning in Lexington regarding charges brought against her by the Cayce Department of Public Safety over the weekend. Warrants for her arrest were obtained Friday by that department after she had sexual intercourse with a student last school year according to the DPS. She has also been charged by the City of Columbia Police Department with several similar counts in their jurisdiction. Dimmler, accompanied by her attorney, turned herself in to Richland County authorities at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center early Saturday morning. She has since been transferred to Lexington County to answer the charges here as well.

Even though the student that Diimmler is accused of having a relationship with was of age at the time of their encounters, she was an educator in a position of authority over him. SC law prohibits this. In that law, an educator or anyone else affiliated with a school in an official capacity, cannot have a sexual relationship with a student. This would include a paid teacher, administrator, bus driver, or even a volunteer that’s affiliated with the school like an assistant sports coach or tutor according to The Ledger's consulting attorney. It doesn’t matter if the student is above the age of consent in SC.

The charges stem from Diimmler having intercourse with the student on the campus of AHS according to a statement from the City of Cayce. Columbia got involved when the pair met for sex in their jurisdiction, according to our sources. Diimmler was suspended from her position after the allegations came to light. She was fired by Lexington County School District Two the following week.

Each count of sexual battery with a student that Diimmler faces, currently there are four in the two jurisdictions, are felonies. Each carries a maximum sentence of five-years in prison. Today’s hearing is just one of many legal proceedings that she will face in the coming months.
