MOM Club’s Spring 2018 Consignment Sale draws record turnout on Saturday
Nearly 500 come to Multiples of the Midlands’ annual fundraiser at Brookland Baptist Church
West Columbia, SC (James Bowers) - For over 40 years, the Multiples of the Midlands Club has worked to support mothers who have given birth to multiple babies at once. Whether twins, triplets, or more, the MOMS club has provided them with education, fellowship, resources, and activities.
As a means of supporting their mission, the club has held consignment sales for almost as long as they have been in existence. During these sales, club members sell goods that are of benefit to multiple-birth families. Whether it be cribs, clothing, shoes, toys, or playpens, all of the items sold are clean, well sorted, and merchandised just as if they are in a retail store.
Though the sale is always a popular affair, the most recent sale may have been the club’s biggest draw yet. 476 people came to shop at the Saturday event that was held at West Columbia’s Brookland Baptist Church. Over 80 sellers were on hand peddling their wares as enthusiastic crowds milled through the church’s sprawling gymnasium. The sale is the first of two that MOM will hold this year; the second will be in the fall.
These are just a couple of the activities undertaken by Multiples of the Midlands. The club began in 1976 as a way to help families with multiple-birth children access important resources. Currently, membership stands at 136 members, with monthly meetings at Columbia’s Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church. Some of the services offered to members are playdates for the members' children, manicures and pedicures, a special closet filled with items needed for premature babies, and a MOM’s Bazaar event. The club is a great outlet for parents who welcomed more than one bundle of joy into the world at a time.
