One killed in single car crash on Pond Branch Road

Boiling Springs, SC (Paul Kirby) – One person was killed in a vehicle accident Tuesday night on Pond Branch Road near the intersection of Ben Franklin Road. This is between Old Charleston Road and the I-20 interchange.

According to the SC Highway Patrol, the deceased car was travelling west on Pond Branch Road toward Batesburg-Leesville when the driver ran off the side of the road, overcorrected, went down an embankment, and struck a tree. The SCHP says that the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene as a result of injuries received in the collision.

The fire service responded and found the victim was trapped in the wreckage of the car. It was down a steep embankment requiring them to use extra care accessing it. Once it was discovered that the driver had died, they notified the corner’s office and they responded. After the coroner’s staff completed their preliminary investigation, the firefighters extricated the individual from the wreckage.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s staff is in the process of notifying the deceased family. Once that is done, she will release the name of the person who passed. The accident remains under investigation by the SCHP.
