Fire damage vacant home near Oak Grove

Oak Grove, SC (Paul Kirby) – This morning, Lexington County firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 100 block of Parkwood Drive near Oak Grove. The call was received at around 1 a.m.

When they arrived, they found heavy flames coming the roof of the home. Ladder 5 out South Congaree extended its aerial and attacked the fire from above. The firefighters on the ground joined in the attack working defensive lines. Eventually, they were able to extinguish the fire working together.

The home was determined to be abandoned and no occupants were inside or injured. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene.

In total, seven fire units and 16 fire personnel responded. The home was deemed as a total loss, with a damage estimate of $60,000. An investigation into the cause is underway.
