Pelion veterans hosting Pelion “Peel Out” walk & run to honor veteran of WW II
Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) The hardworking veterans of Pelion’s American Legion Post 101 are at it again! They’re doing everything they can to help veterans and bring honor and recognition to those who’ve served our country in the armed forces. This time, they are helping by hosting the Pelion Peel Out 10 Miler Walk and Run.
On Saturday, March 10, First Sergeant Thomas Peel, US Army Retired, who’s a feisty 91 years young and a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, will do a 10-mile walk. There’s been a course set up and the legionnaires have invited the entire community to come walk or run also, if you think you can keep up with the Sarge! Don’t think you can make the 10-miles with the Sgt. Peel? There’s also a shorter course of 3.8 miles, for those of us light-weights who’re inclined to take it a little easier.
The event starts at 365 Hartley Quarter Road in Pelion, SC. The walk will start at 8:30 a.m., so get there a bit earlier to grab a place to park and do a little stretching. This is a walk at your own risk, non-sponsored event, so just come out and take a morning walk with Sgt. Peel. There will be water, road guards, and a trail vehicle for those of us that may be outdone by a 91 year old man! For more information, contact David Mills at (803) 360-0572.
