South Congaree officer nets large amount of cocaine and other drugs during traffic stop
South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – South Congaree Police Officer Stone hit the jackpot while patrolling the town Monday night. During a traffic stop, he netted a large amount of powdered cocaine and some crack also.
Officer Stone pulled over a vehicle on Main Street for a traffic violation. When Stone ran the driver’s license, he found that it was suspended. He detained the driver for DUS, and he found a small amount of marijuana in the driver’s pants pocket. This was the probable cause that he needed to search the man’s vehicle further.
After a search, Officer Stone found a kilo of powdered cocaine on the rear seat of the man’s car in a bag. He also found 10 grams of crack cocaine in the car as well. In total, the drugs found in the man’s car had a street value of between $28,000 and $32,500 depending on the purity of the cocaine, according to South Congaree Police Chief Josh Shumpert.
Shumpert said Tuesday that his department has obtained warrants for the man identified as Andres Rodriguez. Rodriguez is 43 years old. He has been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing for trafficking in cut cocaine, trafficking in crack cocaine, simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, and failure to dim his headlights.
