Sheriff’s Department in the early stages of a shooting investigation near West Columbia
West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is in the early stages of an investigation after someone was injured just before midnight Tuesday night by a gunshot near West Columbia. Details are very limited at this time; however we do know that first responders were dispatched to the 1800 block of Platt Springs Rd. near Taylor St. after at least one individual was wounded. The community’s Ring Community Alert, an app that can be installed on smart phones and keeps people advised of what’s happening in their community, sent members in the area an alert about 12:39 this morning.
An ambulance from Lexington County EMS transported what is believed to have been one gunshot victim to Palmetto Richland. It is not known how or where that person was shot or if they were the only person injured. Their condition hasn’t been released at this point either.
We have requested more information from a spokesman from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. We will update the story about this shooting as we learn more.
