Standoff suspect shot dead according to Lexington County officials
Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) The suspect in the armed standoff with officers on I-26 is dead according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and a spokesman for the sheriff’s department. Just before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, a spokesman for the SCHP posted a video to Twitter, and in that video, you can hear what sounds like one distinct gunshot. Shortly after that, a Lexington County ambulance pulled slowly away from the area with its red lights on.
Since that time, the sheriff’s designated spokesman said that the suspect was shot by deputies. Their SWAT team had been on the scene for several hours and a negotiator had spoken with the suspect by cellphone.
The west bound lanes of I-26 at the scene have been reopened although the east lanes at the scene are still closed. SLED has been notified and will handle the investigation into the shooting as is standard operating procedure for any shooting involving a deputy in Lexington County.
