Bridge replacement on Rainbow Drive over Interstate 26 slowed due to several factors
West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) The SCDOT has released a statement that says that the replacement of the bridge on Rainbow Drive over I-26 has been unexpectedly delayed. This is In the Springdale and West Columbia portions of Lexington County.
According to the DOT, the work schedule has been delayed due to an unforeseen utility delay. Often, utility conflicts may need to be relocated and all of those details must be worked out. They also had to reallocate some of their resources toward an emergency bridge repair.
Pending any further delays due to weather conditions or other circumstances, the new bridge should be opened to traffic by Oct. 31, 2018. The original schedule called for a spring 2018 opening.
The current detour includes Platt Springs Road and Wattling Road or Augusta Road and Airport Boulevard.
