Coroner Fisher identifies pedestrian that was killed while crossing I-26 Sunday

West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the name of the man who was killed while attempting to cross I-26 near the Sunset Boulevard interchange Sunday night. According to Mrs. Fisher, Mr. Jeffrey Ronald Rivers, 56, of Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the incident.
Th SCHP has said that Rivers was attempting to cross I-26 westbound when he was struck by three vehicles in the middle lane. So far, no one has been able to explain why Rivers was attempting to cross this multi-lane interstate on foot and at night.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing their investigating into the accident.
