From Blowfish to Pancakes and the Bacons!? What the breakfast Batman! Blowfish to transform to break
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The co-owner and president of The Lexington County Blowfish, Bill Shanahan, announced Wednesday that breakfast will be on the menu at the Lexington County Baseball Park on Friday, June 8th as the Blowfish presto-chango into the Pancakes when they take on the Macon Bacons! That’s right, the boys of summer will have on specially designed jerseys and will temporarily be renamed the Pancakes as the Macon Bacon sizzle their way into town for their first match together. The announcement was made at the luncheon that was held at the ballpark Wednesday - where else, but on Ballpark Road in Lexington. Corporate, government, and community leaders attend these lunches to network, learn more about what’s happening with our Blowfish, and have a great hotdog on the team.
Wednesday, Shanahan had interns displaying specially designed t-shirts to the crowd that are already available to the public for purchase on-line. He also showed a graphic design of the new wardrobe for the players that was specially designed just for that game. Appropriately enough, one side deems the team “The Pancakes,” while the other shows the favorite breakfast item of many along with a spatula for flipping at just the right time to get them golden brown. The words, “Batter Up” accompany the team’s temporary logo.
Shanahan explained that the Coastal Plains League was as much about family fun at the ballpark as it was about the game on the field. Those who really know him know that Shanahan and the team know how to have fun in everything they do! “With the addition of the Savannah Bananas in 2016 and now the Macon Bacon, what a great opportunity to enhance the family fun by creating more “sizzle.” Ladies and Gentlemen, we introduce to you Pancakes Baseball,” Shanahan said at the unveiling. “When the expansion team, the Macon franchise, announced their new name we just thought, 'Let’s be the Pancakes!', and it just got out of hand in regard to all the fun we could have with it. One of our USC Interns came up with the slogan of “Batter Up” and it just keeps getting more creative.”
Shanahan said that even the team’s mascot Blowie is getting a makeover for this game. “After hearing that Macon’s new mascot is Kevin Bacon, we needed a mascot for this venture as well and decided on our name, Flip the Pancake,” said Blowfish General Manager Theo Bacot. “Pancakes t-shirts, on sale today, are coming hot off the griddle and we know they will sell like hotcakes!”
