Special Education Attorney Dino Teppara running for recently vacated seat on Lexington One School Bo

Lexington, SC - Special Education Attorney Dino Teppara is running for the vacant seat on the Lexington One School Board in the June 19 special election with the support of State Superintendent of Education Molly M. Spearman and U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson.

“With strong support from our family, friends, and neighbors, I am running to serve our community on the Lexington One school board. It would be an honor to represent our students, parents, and teachers and maintain the high standards of excellence that have been achieved in our school district. This is an exciting time for our community as we look to turn the page, put the past behind us, and make a fresh start on our school board. I will bring a positive attitude and a strong desire to collaborate with our business community and higher education partners to ensure that all of our students have the best career and college options available to them upon graduation,” said Teppara.

Teppara serves as a special education counsel at the S.C. Department of Education, where he is an advocate for students with special needs. He is also an Ambassador for the Lexington School District One Foundation, was elected to the School Improvement Council at Midway Elementary School, and is president of the Carriage Hill Lakes Homeowners’ Association.

Teppara previously served as an appointee on the S.C. School Safety Task Force, S.C. Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children, and the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission. He is a public affairs officer in the United States Navy Reserve with the rank of lieutenant junior grade and is married and lives in Lexington with his wife and two daughters. If elected, Teppara would become just the second Indian American elected to public office in Lexington County, following the 2004 election of Nikki R. Haley to the statehouse. “I appreciate Dino’s years of service on my staff and know he will work to provide top-notch constituent service to the families of Lexington One. They will benefit from his unique perspective, experience, integrity, and devotion to the community,” said Congressman Wilson.

“I am confident Dino will be a strong representative for hard-working families on the Lexington One School Board. He reflects the diversity and values expected by parents, teachers, and students. We need more leaders like Dino to step up and offer themselves for service on their local school boards,” said Superintendent Spearman.

“Education is the key to opening doors for opportunities and future career success,” said Teppara. “I hope my hard work in becoming a college student-athlete, lawyer, and Naval Officer, will inspire students across our district to aim high, dream big, and persevere to achieve their goals.”

The special election for the Lexington One School Board vacancy takes place on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.
