LMS threat case solved, Lexington One expresses its thanks to Town of Lexington Police

LEXINGTON, S.C. — This afternoon, the Town of Lexington Police Department informed district administrators that they had located the individual responsible for creating a SnapChat social media threat sent to Lexington Middle students yesterday.

The social media message, which also threatened another school in another district, disrupted learning yesterday and caused undue stress and anxiety so much that the school had more than 40 percent of students marked absent in one or more classes.

Superintendent Greg Little stated, “Know this. We do not tolerate threats to our students’ safety, and we believe that every child deserves a safe learning environment. Our administrators, School Resource Officers and many others work every day to make our schools safe places.

“Today, we are extremely thankful for the hard work of the Town of Lexington Police Department whose officers worked overnight Monday night, throughout the day and night Tuesday, and this morning to diligently investigate this situation, track down the individual involved and solve this crime — all while supporting Lexington Middle staff and students throughout the day by assigning additional officers to the school the last two days as a precaution.”

The district thanks the Lexington Middle students who saw the online post and told a parent and the parents who took the threat seriously, came forward and reported it. Due to their vigilance, we were able to quickly respond and take action to ensure the safety of our staff and students.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our highest priority.
