Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A vehicle accident that seriously injured at least one of the occupants of a truck, may have been the result of a domestic dispute that started at a popular micro-brewery in Lexington. The accident tied up traffic near Pilgrim Church Road and North Lake Drive in multiple directions for several hours beginning before dark and the situation stayed backed up until long after the sun went down.

Lexington Police Department officers were notified by the county’s 911 center of a pickup truck that had left the Casual Pint near Lowe’s just off Sunset Boulevard after what callers were describing to 911 operators as a domestic dispute. The people who were calling the incident’s details in said that the Ford truck’s operator was driving erratically and gave detailed descriptions of its occupants. One, a woman, was even supposed to have been wearing a Wonder Woman costume. She was apparently accompanied by a male as well. Multiple Lexington PD officers began heading in the direction that callers said the pickup was driving in an attempt to get it pulled over. Before they could locate it and initiate a successful traffic stop, the truck overturned near Pilgrim Church within a few miles of where it was first reported leaving the bar.

Officers quickly arrived on the scene and began to take charge of the situation, reporting on the condition of one of the occupants who was apparently thrown from the truck when it overturned to their dispatch center. Fire and EMS units also arrived and took over care from the officers, dealing with the critically injured. Eventually, the officers able to positively link the vehicle that had crashed to the reports they had received from callers regarding the incident at the Casual Pint.

Traffic immediately began backing up in many directions as the wreck closed the road and emergency workers further blocked the lanes for their safety. Some reported sitting in the traffic for at least as hour, and many turned around seeking to detour the tie up. Eventually, at least one Lexington County ambulance left the scene enroute to the trauma center with a firefighter driving so that both EMS crewmembers could attend the patient(s). The exact number injured in the crash or their conditions haven’t been released by officials. Eventually, the scene was turned over to troopers from the SCHP for further investigation. Who might be charged with what and by what agency hasn’t been released at this point.
