One dead in Tuesday morning wreck near Gaston

Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) One person has died in a car accident near Gaston Tuesday morning. According to Major Stephen Watkins, spokesman for the Gaston PD, the accident occurred at Hwy 321 south (Main Street) at Lucas Road, not far from the Gaston Post Office.

Watkins said that the collision was a result of two vehicles that collided head-on. The accident, which tied up traffic for most of the morning, had firefighters and EMS personnel as well as police officers on the scene for several hours. Gaston officers were assisted by other law enforcement agencies as the northbound lanes of Hwy 321 were closed and the traffic was at a standstill for a while.

Currently, the exact cause of the collision is under investigation. Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office is working to make the necessary notifications to the deceased’s next of kin. When that is done, she will notify the community regarding the name of the person who passed.
