Two fires near Gaston destroy one mobile home and approximately 6 acres before being brought under c
Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home was severely damaged and approximately six acres of grass and brush burned in two separate fires between Gaston and Swansea on Tuesday afternoon. According to Harrison Cahill, spokesman for Lexington County, both of the fires were dispatched just before 2 p.m.
Cahill said that the first fire was in the 1100 block of Fallaw Road. When firefighters arrived, they found an abandoned mobile home well involved and the fire running through the surrounding brush and grass. Cahill described the damage to the home as severe. Before the fire’s advance could be stopped, approximately 2 or 3 acres of the grass around the home had also burned.
The second fire, which was dispatched moments later, was in the 1100 block of Stonemont Drive closer to Swansea. When firefighters arrived there, they again found a fast-moving grass fire threatening homes. They were able to protect the structures and put the grass fire out, but not before it consumed another 2 or 3 acres there as well.
