Overturned tractor trailer causing traffic tie-up at Charleston Hwy. & Hwy 321 south split

Dixiana, SC (Paul Kirby) A tractor trailer truck hauling steel has overturned at the Charleston Hwy. and Hwy. 321 south split southwest of Cayce. The truck is reported to be leaking fuel from its tanks.

The fire service was dispatched to the call at approximately 4:40 p.m. When they arrived, they first reported that someone involved was injured and needed the assistance of an EMS unit. A few moments later, they cancelled the EMS crew and said that no one wanted to be treated or transported.

As of 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, the accident was causing a severe traffic tie-up. Firefighters were doing what they could but had requested that any law enforcement officer in the area respond to assist because one of the outbound or southern lanes were closed to traffic at the split. This would severely hinder commuters coming out of Columbia after work. Law enforcement officers are enroute.
