Coroner identifies second victim from Augusta Highway collision Wednesday
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said Thursday that a second individual has died as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred in the 3500 block of Augusta Highway near Gilbert at about 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9th. According to the coroner, Robert Anthony O’Kelley, 44, of Batesburg was pronounced dead at an area hospital Thursday.
O’Kelley was traveling south on Augusta Highway when he was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. O’Kelley, the driver, was not wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred. The driver of the other vehicle, Margaret Burke, was pronounced dead on scene due to her injuries. She was also from Batesburg.
The collision is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
