Car splits tree on Gator Road sends two to the hospital

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) Two people were transported from the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Gator Road between South Congaree and Edmund Friday afternoon. The accident happened just before 4:00 p.m. bringing firefighters, EMS personnel, and law enforcement officers rushing to the scene.

Apparently, the driver of a gold SUV lost control and went off the road in a curve just off Edmund Highway. The car then struck a tree which split in half as it crashed into the woods. The two occupants of the car were treated on the scene of the wreck and then transported by the EMS crew. Firefighters assisted them and tried to control the afternoon traffic as cars came around the curve and encountered the accident.

There was no word on the condition of the two who were transported from the wreck. At 5:10 p.m., the vehicle was being removed from the woods by a recovery company. The wreck is being investigated by the SCHP.
