Fire service says family pet died in last night’s apartment fire, 15 people displaced

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County officials are now saying that last night’s fire at the Lakeland Apartments in Lexington killed a family’s dog and displaced 15 people. Three of the housing units received heavy fire damage and three others received smoke and water damage after fire, EMS, and the police responded to the apartment building fire in the 200 block of Old Chapin Road just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Harrison Cahill, spokesman for Lexington County, said that no people were hurt, and the American Red Cross of South Carolina was called in to assist the displaced residents. The apartments suffered an estimated $330,000 in damages, according to Cahill. The fire’s cause is still being determined by investigators.
