River Bluff Bands hold third annual “Food Truck Festival” Fundraiser Friday evening
Pelican’s Snowballs, Pawley’s Front Porch among vendors present
Lexington, SC (James Bowers) - The award-winning River Bluff High School Marching Gator Band program held its third annual food truck festival on campus Friday evening. Several area mobile food and treat units were on hand to help raise funds for RBHS’ band programs. Pawley’s Front Porch, Pelican’s Snowballs, Cha-Cha, and Scott Benny’s American and international cuisine were among the choices present at River Bluff High. Attendees got to sample some delicious food and drinks and it was all for a good cause.
The event is the third of its kind for River Bluff’s band program, which provides several musical opportunities for RBHS students. The program includes not only the marching band, but also a jazz band, and the wind ensemble,to name a few. The bands participate in several competitions and activities throughout the year and the cost of doing so adds up quickly. This makes fundraising an integral part of the Gator Bands’ operation. “A marching band is big business, and it costs a lot of money to travel and do the things that we do,” Gator band director Ken Turner said. Turner says that for 2018-2019, the Gator Band will compete in the state 5A Marching Band competition and the Bands of American Regional in Gaffney among other events. The funds raised during the food truck drive will be valuable as the band continues to pursue such endeavors.
Other fundraising activities for the band include operation of the concession stands at RBHS athletic events, fruit sales, and “Gator Band nights” at local restaurants among others. Turner says that any support is appreciated. “We try to do anything we can to help the kids out.”
