Cayce Public Safety assist SCHP with chase Monday afternoon
Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Cayce Department of Public Safety assisted the South Carolina Highway Patrol in a pursuit after a suspect in a car sped away from a traffic stop Monday. Eventually, the driver of the car and a passenger were taken into custody and one other passenger escaped.
According to Sgt. 1st Class Evan Antley, spokesman for Cayce DPS, a trooper had made a traffic stop at Airport Blvd. and I-26 when the driver fled the stop and initiated a pursuit. The trooper’s communication center requested the assistance of Cayce Public Safety as the car led the trooper into the city. Eventually, the suspect who had initiated the pursuit led officers to the 1400 block of Oakland Ave. where the driver of the car stopped, three jumped from the vehicle, and tried to run on foot. Officers were able to run down the driver and one of the passengers, but another passenger was able to elude the officers.
Antley said that the SCHP has charged the driver with failure to stop for blue lights. Additionally, Cayce has charged the man with trespassing on railroad property and simple possession of marijuana. The passenger was charged with disobedience to a public safety official, trespassing on railroad property, and simple possession of marijuana as well.
